During this time of isolation, podcasting provides a unique opportunity to share information without the need for physical contact
At Crate Media, we are actively working on distributing resources to help you use podcasting as a method to distribute news, information, classes, lectures, updates, etc. as audio formatted content directly to your group or organization. In the interest of urgency, let’s dive in…
Use a podcast feed to distribute information to your audience.
In the simplest sense, a podcast is an audio-format show that is distributed from one single source (the host) to a wide group of listeners (the audience). However, it doesn’t have to be a “show” in the sense you may be thinking of; this format can be used with any type of content. For instance, a CEO may choose to distribute thoughts, updates, and company memos aurally through a podcast feed rather than the written word.
We believe podcasting presents an opportunity to effectively share your organization’s information and “memos” during the quarantines and societal distancing surrounding the coronavirus. Crate Media is offering to set up private podcast feeds (along with our trusted partners) for this exact purpose.
1. Record Your Content
Using your phone, open up your “Voice Memos” app. For best quality, hold your phone about a football-length away from your face, with your mouth facing the bottom of the phone (near the power port).
Click to start recording, and click again to stop. Once you’ve recorded your content, we suggest renaming the file to help keep you organized. For further organization, you can “Save To Files” and create a folder on your iPhone with all podcast recordings.
2. Hosting
Crate is offering to host podcasts on our network account - completely free - during this time.
Because these podcasts are intended for private use, there is no need to “publish” the show publicly on Apple, Spotify, or other outlets. Users in your organization will be able to manually add the show (see more below).
Once your podcast is set up by our team, you (and others in your organization) will be able to record, upload, and publish new episodes with complete autonomy. We have simply streamlined the setup process by handling that for you.
3. Distribution
As these shows are not being distributed publicly, we are working with our partners at Glow.fm to make shows privately available to anyone with proper access. Once set up, you will be given a private landing page to direct your users to.
4. Listening
Because not all podcast apps support private podcast feeds, the apps available for listening to your show have been narrowed down to the following. Please inform your organization that listening is only available on:
4. Privacy
The security of your content and information are extremely important to us. It is our goal in this situation to aid in the setup and distribution of a podcast feed for your own private use. We promise not to share your information with anyone outside of the Crate Media team.
5. Publish
Once you have all your information ready, use the button below to submit your show to us.
During normal business hours, we expect to have your show online within 90 minutes. Submissions sent after 6pm and on weekends may experience delays.
6. Share
After your information is received, we will respond to you with links to a landing page and dashboard at Glow.fm which you can then distribute to your organization’s audience.
7. More Episodes
After the initial setup, you may publish as many or as few episodes as you wish.
Log in to Captivate.fm.
In the top-right corner of the screen, click “Publish Episode.”
Click to choose and upload your new episode audio file from Voice Memos.
Type in a title for your episode.
Type in a description for your episode under “Episode Show Notes.”
You may leave all other fields blank.
Click “Publish” in the bottom-right of the screen.
After you set an episode to “Publish,” you don’t need to do anything else on Captivate or on Glow. New episode releases will be pushed to your audience right away.
